Dear Mr. Limbaugh,
Here I am again, mouth hanging open, as I still try to swallow the
denial of your bid to buy an NFL team. Where is the ACLU? They should
be incensed to hear of such absolute prejudice. If, in fact, you
actually made the statements you are accused of, does this give you any
less right to own a football franchise? Let us play the devils advocate
for a minute and determine that you said some very unsavory things. Did
Al Sharpton not personally involve himself in some less than honorable
behaviors in the past? And was Jesse Jackson without his own skeletons
in the closet? Yet there they are enjoying the courtesies of the media,
broadcasting their opinions, no matter how rude and unacceptable I may
find them. What an atrocity. Does our society no longer recognize the
rights our constitution provides, like freedom of speech? Do you not
have a right to purchase something in this country even if your opinion
is poorly accepted? As a matter of fact, if every individual that has
shared a controversial opinion were no longer allowed to purchase ball
teams and other such high profile items than I find it hard to imagine
any of these items would be owned at all. Do the American people not
recognize that these very prejudices are what provide the ability for a
government to monitor and slowly remove every right we now consider
inalienable. Maybe if I share my opinion that I am entirely opposed to
abortion, Price Chopper will have a right to ban me from shopping as it
is not a popular way to think according to their other customers. Oh,
we laugh and say that is ridiculously radical but is it? If you can be
denied the right to purchase based on your verbal opinions, why would I
be fool enough to believe that these same rules cannot be applied to
me. Are we so far removed from reality that we have forgotten the black
Americans that were not allowed to enter certain restaurants? Have we
forgotten that the entire race of Jewish people was nearly annihilated
from this planet? Have women forgotten that they were viewed as
sub-human with no rights in this country? Would the women that fought
so hard to have a voice be supportive of our silence in providing these
freedoms for _/*All*/_ Americans...even when they do not fit in with the
more accepted points of view? Do we not realize that when our voice is
removed we become slaves, not free men and women? When your freedom of
speech is punished, it opens the door for my freedom of speech to be
punished. If a person of your high profile is publicly ostracized and
denied rights based on what you may have said it sets fear in the hearts
of Americans everywhere. We begin to question just how far we can take
our right to an opinion. We begin to live in fear and become more
silent in our beliefs. Beware, Silence will not protect us! If we stop
speaking the truth we will be defeated; and if we don't stand together
we will allow our own rights to be taken one at a time. If you agree
with this please share it with everyone you think of! If you don't
agree, thank God you live in America and have the right to your
opinion...at least for now! Rush Limbaugh has a right to own a football
team as much as I have a right to buy a magazine at the store, as long
as I have acquired it honestly. He has been denied that right with no
fair trial, only allegations from others that have less than reputable
backgrounds themselves, and media that in most cases does not seem to
remember that they are supposed to be providing America with a fair,
truthful and objective view of the news.
Always,
Kimberly Logue
